Our History
Mutual Weave® was founded in 1973 by aspiring entrepreneurs and lifelong friends John Smith and Michael Jones. John and Michael met during their college years at Fashion Institute of Design in New York City, where they bonded over their passion for fashion, textiles, and desire to start their own clothing company one day.
After graduating, John and Michael began researching the denim industry and were inspired to create a line of jeans and casualwear that combined comfort, quality construction, and affordable prices. In 1973, they pooled together their savings and opened the first Mutual Weave® store in their hometown of Los Angeles, CA.
The brand was an immediate hit with locals thanks to the soft, lived-in feel of their denim along with John and Michael’s attention to fit and detail. Word began to spread, and soon Mutual Weave® jeans and shirts were being sold at boutiques and department stores across the country.

We reinforce high-stress areas and use sturdy stitching that won’t unravel or stretch out, no matter how often you throw our clothes in the wash. Items like our jeans and jackets are crafted using resilience-building techniques like double needle stitching and bar tacking that boost durability.
We also pride ourselves on our strict quality control checks. Before any piece leaves our facilities, it goes through multiple inspections from our skilled team to ensure it meets our uncompromising standards and will hold up to years of regular use. If a garment doesn’t pass, we go back to the drawing board to improve our patterns, fits, and construction methods.
